As a parent participation school, Stevenson PACT relies on active, in classroom support from all families.
This classroom support enables small group instruction and helps with classroom management. It is also an opportunity for parents to build a deeper connection with their child and their community. The school's progressive education model builds on this active support, as do all of the co-corricular programs that the school offers.
Stevenson PACT is the largest school in MVWSD, and all of its classes are typically at capacity. This means that without parents supporting students and teachers in the classroom, Stevenson PACT has the largest class sizes in the district. It is only with parent volunteers that the school is able to offer small group instruction. Full participation from all families is critical to the success of the students.
Parents are expected to volunteer in three ways: supporting students, supporting teachers, and supporting the school. Please take time to review the expectations below, and be sure you are ready to make the time commitments required for to support schools curriculum and programs.
Each family is expected to volunteer 2 hours per week per child in the classroom, directly supporting students.
This volunteering is an in classroom volunteering shift. You will work with students in small groups, supporting them with academics, social emotional learning, behavior management, and more.
If you've never worked with students before, don't worry. Stevenson PACT has a 10 hour parent education program spread over three days that will get you up to speed on how to engage students, manage behavior, and best work with the classroom teacher.
Each family is expected to take on a classroom job supporting the classroom teacher.
The exact classroom job will vary from class to class, but some examples include administrative roles like coordinating volunteers, or more hands on roles like helping with OLEs (field trips) for the class.
Each family is expected to serve on a school-wide committee. School-wide committees are responsible for co-curricular activites like Arts Focus, ImPACT, cooking, gardening, STEAM, and more.
Additionally, families are expected to make a financial contribution at a level that is affordable to their family. The PACT foundation sets an expected contribution level, but the most important goal is 100% participation at whatever financial level is comfortable for your family. You can learn more about the current requested financial contribution on our donations pageÂ
